Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

This morning I was laying in bed, in that half asleep, half awake state, half listening to the early morning radio show that we use as our alarm.

Suddenly, my wife woke up with a start.

"Wha! Oh I just had a horrible dream!" She looked visibly shaken by whatever it was - perhaps the old "being eaten alive by rats" one?

I hugged her, telling her it was OK, just a dream.

"But it was horrible. The tree. You decorated my tree and it was horrible!"

Notice "my tree".

The she went on to describe how I had decorated the tree in her dream. As she talked about the details I mentally ticked off items - yes, yes, yes, ooh that's a good idea, yes, yes...

"So, if I did the tree even remotely like that it would be bad, would it?"

"Well, in my dream I was trying to work out now much I could change it each day without anyone else noticing until I could live with it".

In the discussion that followed we came to the conclusion that I might have to give up my claim on the living room and be happy with the porch and hall - the thought of me doing the tree has clearly traumatised my poor wife!

I will still endeavour to take pictures, though...

I hate doing the tree, so it sounds to me you just got off the hook there ;)

Don't get me wrong - I love having a christmas tree. I just don't like decorating the thing.

You know what you SHOULD do...cause it would be funny...but not enough to traumatize your wife...you should let her go ahead and decorate the tree and then change it a little bit each day to YOUR taste, and just watch to see how long it takes her to realize.
Then you can tease her that you just wanted to change it enough that YOU could stand it!
Oh man, she would probably get a kick out of that!

r.e.h. - Well I will still have my daughter's Winnie the Pooh tree to do, as that is going in the porch. But I was looking forward to doing the BIG ONE!

Ali - You are a mischievous little devil! That is a fantastic idea! I will have to be really careful otherwise she will notice immediately...

Oh my gosh...that is too funny...she was visable shaken at the thought of you decorating "her tree"...I LOVE it! I think Clare and I would get along just fine! Ha!

P.S.-we still want pictures! :0)

I guess we settled that debate.

That means you don't have to help put it up, decorate or take it down, if it's "her tree," right? :D

there's a part of me that loves decorating the tree and a part of me that doesn't. i'm always glad when it's finished.

i do love to sit and watch the lights though. they bring a calmness over me... there's just something about christmas lights.

That was hilarious!! I think I might agree with Ali... you should do subtle changes to "her" tree and wait to see how long it takes her to realize what you've been doing.

I sure hope you do post pics! I can hardly wait to see:)

Your poor wife... so concerned with your decorating talents (or lack of) that she's having nightmares! I can see you want to take advantage of this, but you better not mess with her too much! You don't want to end up sleeping on the couch!

When I was young I loved the tree so much that at night I would bring a blanket and pillow out to the living room and sleep under the tree, that and I could use the lights from the tree to read even longer.

Luckily Ken likes the way I do the tree and doesn't touch it once I do it...but our lovely kitten get a wild hair and sometimes thinks she has to climb it. Ahhhh the joys of pet ownership...

Still waiting on that promise of a picture...

I love doing the tree when putting it up...I hate taking it down. It takes three times as long.
