Mr Diplomatic

My children are, generally, very nice and polite children. However, as my older son moves into his teens he is becoming increasingly outspoken, as you would expect.

A recent incident, which took place at the local youth club, still makes me both cringe and laugh out loud.

My daughter was with a couple of her friends and things had become increasingly tense between these 2 friends, with my daughter stuck in the middle. Eventually it turned into a shouting and pushing match, with both girls hurling horrible insults at each other about ugly they were. Finally my son lost patience with them, and stepped between them, pushing them apart.

"Can you two stop it, please?"

Isn't that nice? I was so proud of him. Then he delivered the punchline:

"We know you have both got real facial problems, so can we just leave it there?"

Do you think he may have a future in politics? International diplomacy?

I was all set to be extraordinarily impressed, and then had to laugh as I realized your son is a normal teen!

Love the punchline... will have to file it away under "good comebacks for people with facial issues." Tell your son thanks!

That's funny!! Tell it like it is...I don't think that is a quality of politicians though...they usually tell it like they want you to hear it...right?

A career in Unites States politics maybe, we sling mud over here and let the chips fall where they may. Send him over, they will put him right to work!!!

But the fact that he started out so serious and then had the follow up...maybe he should consider a career as a comedian, with delivery like that stand up may be the thing for him. I laughed out loud. Funny boy!

Terri - Yes, a thing that we have encouraged, he used to take things far too seriously.

Kenady - Will do.

Logzie - You got it!

Kiki - My son as the "tell it like it is" politician, huh? I can see him at the UN now - "and as for you lot over there..." Stand up? Might be a better choice, along the Mel Brooks "don't care who I offend, in fact let's offend everyone" line.

That was fantastic! Completely made my day! This is why parenting must be tough. . .

thought i'd check out ur blog from my sister's blog (jahooni).

cute son you have... i hope mine grows up to be just like that. there's something about someone being able to say it just like it is. makes me wonder what the girls thought afterwards... ehehehhehe

i always hated school because of these reasons... the girls are mean little things! and funny, but even as adults, you still find those girls from high school!

Zig - glad you liked it!

Jen - it is tough, a new challenge each day, but I would not be without them.

Valley Girl - thanks.

Marie - it is! He worded it so well!

Um Naief - well the girls stopped fighting and seem to have been much nicer to each other ever since! Go figure!
