My daughter has got this odd, yet very cute, little pose that she does, usually in response to praise from me. She holds here hands either side of her face and spreads out her fingers, so she looks like a flower. She will then say something in a little baby voice that just melts my heart, and she knows it.
Yesterday lunchtime everyone else had already grabbed something to eat and she decided that she wanted to cook herself something nice. She worked really hard at it, choosing ingredients, chopping things up, whisking eggs, etc and ended up with a Chinese omlette, with ham, garlic, onion, baby sweetcorn, etc, in it. The smell was amazing, especially when all I had eaten was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! I decided to try my luck.
"Mm, that smells amazing! It was so nice of you to cook it for me!"
"It's not for you, it's for me."
"No, I am sure I heard you say it was for me. Didn't you hear that mummy?"
"It's not for you, it's for me!"
"But you are such a sweet, kind, lovely girl-"
At this point she turned round, struck the pose I described above and said, in the baby voice:
"No I'm not!"
And sat down and ate the omlette.

Hm, wonder what that said! I have never had a deleted comment before!
She sounds wonderful! My daughter does something similare when she is praised as well. Kids are so amazing... I love to watch their minds working as they discover new things, like cooking, or for mine it's writing letters, etc.
that was me... sorry about that!
i was having trouble w/ blogger and couldn't repost... but this is what i said - basically -
your daughter sounds really cute. such spunk and a talent for cooking at such a young age.
i can't get over that you have so many kids and still sound pretty sane, w/ two of them pretty close in age. we're thinking of having another and, if we did, it would be next year, so they'd be 2 yrs apart, and there's a part of me that can't imagine it, but i want more than one...
how was it for you and your wife?
Kenady - You are right - watching them learn and develop is an amazing thing. The letters and stuff like that are REALLY important, we do everything we can to encourage a love of books and reading - I was really rather sad when bedtime stories had to be dropped!
Un naief - thanks, she is a great kid. As for having them, we had one, then a gap (not planned) then rolled them out at roughly 2 year intervals (again not planned, we had been told that we could never have children!) until I had myself "done". It was pretty mad at times, especially when at one point we had 2 in nappies (daipers) at the same time, but overall I would say go for it. As for me being sane, that is open to debate, but I was mad BEFORE I had kids so I can't blame them!
Ha! Good luck with that one! She's got you just where she wants you :)
She sounds like a perfect, delightful little ham.
Don't I know it!
Hm, at least she has not developed pouting yet...
Don't be surprised if she already knows all about pouting, she's probably just waiting for the right moment to bust it out ;)
Suddenly I'm craving pb & j...weird...
I am excited for when my daughter reaches that age, and is able to pull things like that...
I can't get past the fact your daughter cooks. I think I need to push that a bit more with mine.
If it can't be stuck in the Microwave, she won't even try.
Hahahaha, John, she is definitely YOUR child! She got YOU!
My dad taught me how to make coffee when I was little, he liked to have pot brewing almost all day...I loved to do it because it made me feel important, and I knew he appreciated it. I think all little girls know just how to work their dad over to get what they want. With four daughters my dad was completely outnumbered - he knew it and loved it!!! Your daughter sounds like a charming girl, I'm so glad you and your wife have her to mix it up for you guys.
We have a phrase here in America...maybe you have it there as well...
sounds like "she has you wrapped around her little finger"...and that is where every good father should be with his little girl! :0)
She sounds hilarious! And oh yah, that cooking thing...can you send her here to teach me??
Ali - I am sure you are right! You seem to know far too much about this sort of thing...
Princess - Are you that responsive to everything you read?
Zig - you won't know what has hit you! Hope we are still blogging when it happens so the rest of us can share it.
Joe - Hi! We think that cooking is a skill that kids should be encouraged with, try to find something that they enjoy - cakes, bread, cookies, etc are all good places to start.
Terri - She sure did!
Kiki - my youngest boy (who I will be writing about today) is the expert drink maker in the house, he is great! Four girls? Your dad never had a chance :-)
Logzie - yes we say that here too, and it is totally true. You don't need cooking lessons, you just need to build up your confidence! Look at those amazing cakes you make! Apply that sort of creativity to main meals and you will be away!
Wow. Sounds exactly like my house!
Krista - yes I had a feeling that might be the case!
